Moving on up to Lockheed Martin

CAHSI Scholar Stephanie Gamboa Transitions to the Workplace

It is truly fascinating how fast life changes. I never imaged that at age 22, I would be packing up all of my belongings and moving across the country to an unfamiliar place. I graduated with a BS in Computer Science in December 2020 and began my career as a Software Engineer Associate for Lockheed Martin in January 2021. My new career meant change, not only in my responsibilities, but in my environment as well. I relocated from the heart of California to the Sunshine State of Florida.

In a short span of time, I had to find my new "home" and fill that "home" with important items such as furniture and basic appliances (who know microwaves were so essential). As for my job responsibilities, I'm excited about working on different projects and practicing agile/scrum techniques.

My experiences at CSU Stanislaus -- both in the classroom and work environment -- have prepared me well. I continue to grow and learn more every day, while also applying the knowledge I gained during my undergraduate experience. Going from college to industry can be scary, especially with our current circumstances, but I continue to look forward to new experiences and projects. Regardless of opening a new chapter in life, I continue to stay involved in my community in the hopes to help inspire more young minds. Being able to give back through events like "Warriors Who Tech" brings me one step closer to making the positive impact that I hope to achieve.
